Tricks of the Poet’s Trade
Among other techniques, we will be looking at a tool used in poetry called personification. This means to endow inanimate objects with human or animal qualities. The poem below is based on this technique:
I can’t see the stairs, but I know they’re there
I hear them creak from time to time
I am tired
I cannot move
I remember the bright sunshine streaming through the window at the top of the stairs
I have met many generations that are no more
I am afraid that I have been completely forgotten
I dream of the sun lighting the stairs and a family that will love and care for me

Forces in Action
We will be finding out more about the forces of gravity, friction and magnetic attraction. We will discover how these forces affect the motion of objects. While having lots of fun with parachutes and magnets, the children will consolidate their understanding that forces have direction and can be measured. Click on the picture to investigate!
